Rafael is an ambitious, seductive man who likes attractive women, elegant clothes and select environments. Īnd please tell me that is not an actual reality show.He has a plan and this time he has to be really perfect! However, she does have a few surprises in store. The events are seen through Rafael's eyes and narration.(The movie getting more surreal as it goes along might be a sign of Rafael starting to lose his mind.) He does not see much in Lourdes(Monica Cervera), but only because she is plain looking, unlike most of the women who work for him. "The Perfect Crime" is a very entertaining black satire that wittily comments on the materialistic, shallow culture that we live in without turning into a lecture. Now, Rafael has two new problems: a possible eyewitness and what to do with the body? But before that can happen, Rafael and Antonio scuffle and Rafael accidentally kills Antonio. Not only that, but Antonio intends to fire his rival for openly berating a customer. He is in a competition with Antonio(Luis Varela), of mens wear, to be the new floor manager but loses out on the final day. "The Perfect Crime" starts with Rafael(Guillermo Toledo) living his ideal life as the head of the ladies wear department, having nightly affairs with members of his nubile staff.

I found that the Ferpect Crime does not give us a totally shallow film of lust, violence, and greed, but a shell that we can look upon for an example of what happens when we idealize too much and don't live more than what the media and magazines limit us to. I feel sympathetic towards Raphael and, in that process, I think of the everyday person and how I do wish them better and that they'd wake up like the character.

But I think a better feeling to jump straight to is sympathy.

In theory, it is disgusting and could be looked at as pitiful. You know those people, the ones that get excited walking around an apartments store, like it's classy and will change their lives. This naturally led me to over-analyze the film more and caused me to find that Raphael is a character that stands to represent the everyday person who hopes and dreams of attaining superficial and artificial beneficiaries to make their life apparently "better". I think what made me appreciate the film a bit more was that the general audience I saw this with were "disgusted" or didn't think Raphael had any depth and that there wasn't much meaning to the film. It actually had a good beat to it and lots of good Hitchcock and references and towards the end I found myself entertained. Fortunately, though a bit typical, it wasn't too much of the latter. I had to watch this film for extra credit for class and didn't think too much of it from an overview it seemed a little typical and generic.
